Steel Structure

What is the maximum clear span possible with pre-engineered steel buildings?

Standard pre-engineered steel buildings can achieve clear spans up to 90 meters (approximately 300 feet) without interior columns. However, the most cost-effective range is 18-45 meters. Beyond 45m, steel weight increases exponentially and special fabrication is required. For spans over 60m, truss systems or space frames may be more economical than conventional portal frames. The practical limit depends on building height, wind loads, and local design codes. Most warehouse and industrial applications fall within the 24-36m span range.
